Stuck connecting to console

Open Glasvegas opened this issue 1 year ago • 11 comments

I'm on a Steam deck using desktop mode, it worked fine last night using beta 8 but I'm stuck on the connecting to console screen this morning. I had the issue before using the discovery store app but was able to fix it by downloading beta 8 from here, I've tried every other beta and nothing seems to be working. Does anyone know any way to fix this?

I have the same issue today. Intense weather outside though my internet is fine. Figured it might be that but maybe not.

Same it's stormy outside for me, but I don't think that's the issue, I managed to get it working on beta 8 after hard resetting my console (Holding the power button for 10 seconds). I actually bought XBPlay on steam but refunded it after I noticed the input lag and image quality weren't very good for a paid product compared to Greenlight. So I'm not sure if the reset or if streaming it through the other app fixed it, but it's worth trying the reset.

Interesting about the weather - so it's working for you now? I tried turning the console off but I'm not sure if it hard reset. I'll try that.

Ok cool thanks - hard reset fixed it for me as well. Before I just turned it off with the controls.

Glad it worked for you, can't believe I spent an hour trying to troubleshoot different versions when the fix was so simple lol. Hopefully it's a repeatable fix if the problem ever comes up again.

Lol that's how it usually goes.. "is it plugged in?".

EDITED TO ADD VERSION

Greenlight version: 2.1.1 Downloaded from: https://github.com/unknownskl/greenlight/releases File used: Greenlight-2.1.1.AppImage Installation guide used: https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-remote-play-xbox-series-x-s-on-steam-deck/

Steam Deck user here. I am testing Greenlight using my phone internet as hotspot (if I travel, I'm gonna use my phone's internet). The Xbox is wired to the ISP router My Steam Deck detects the console and turns it on (I hear the hardware activating, you know: Fan, processor, dvd player, things making noises) but I'm stuck on "Connecting to console" I tried using my laptop (connected to the same hotspot) and it worked. Then, I tried to connect again from my Deck using Greenlight and the laptop shows the message "You started cloud gaming on another device" but the deck is stuck again on "Connecting to console"

  • I decided to connect the Steam Deck to my router wireless (xbox is connected to the same router but it's wired) and Greenlight works.
  • I changed it back to my phone hotspot and Greenlight doesn't work (but my laptop connected to the same hotspot is still able to connect)
  • I changed the network on my Xbox, disconnected the network cable and I connected it to the phone hotspot, and Greenlight works.
  • I plugged back the cable and Greenlight stopped working.

In all those scenarios, my laptop (connected to the phone hotspot) worked just fine. Seems like maybe Greenlight doesn't work properly if devices are not in the same network? What's curious is that Greenlight is able to detect the state of the console (stand by/turned on) but it can't connect. I restarted the console but it still doesn't work. I restarted the Steam Deck but it still doesn't work.

UPDATE Issue 999: https://github.com/unknownskl/greenlight/issues/999 Suggest to open the port 9002 UDP in my router. Tried that and Greenlight seems to be working as expected

Sad thing is, the games are now unplayable because the speeds upload/download. So I'll stick to local network and accept my fate.

Worked for me ! Opening port 9002 UDP worked after a long day of headache. Now I can use Greenlight on my Mac from anywhere without having to use the Xbox app on the small iPhone screen 🥹

I dont have access to my router's configuration settings. How can I fix this like you did? Is that a must?

@DaKlock11 It's unlikely that you still need it, but I'll leave the solution for future users. You can connect remotely to the console using a mobile device and use the built-in browser (Edge on xbox) to access the router settings in order to open the port
