Feature: Unicode palette

Open cblc opened this issue 10 months ago • 3 comments

It would be nice to have a dialog window that behaves as a palette where you could click on Unicode characters that you might need (for example Greek letters for formulas). I know that many OSs have their own system-wide palette for this, but I somehow believe that having it in XNedit would be very handy, because you would have the same crossplatform workflow no matter the system you are using at the moment.

BTW: Yes, I know there's the insert Unicode codepoint dialog, but I mean a user friendly graphical chooser.

Not what you're requesting but I use an extensive ~/.XCompose file for this, covers Greek characters + all the single-accented Latin characters + many others. I can post it if you're interested.

I like the idea of having a unicode character browser. It would also be good to have some customization options, to save favourites or recently used characters.
