why get pdfs?

The readme instructs the user to run download/pdf.sh to get all of the pdfs. From what grep and I can tell this is the only time the pdfs are used/referenced. Why download the pdfs?

Not sure. I don't think that part (the section labeled work in progress) is working at all.
