QUESTION: How best to include COVID in models

Hi I am looking at including the covid lockdowns to help improve my forcasts. I was just going to include them as a binary covarient feature. However I don't know if encoders would be better suited, or maybe a custom holiday?

I think that including this information as covariates is the most appropriate and straight-forward approach.
