  • [ ] I have tried reproducing this issue in ungoogled-chromium with a new and empty profile and it could not be reproduced there

Description

I can't stop this browser from clearing cookies on close after disabling "clear cookies on close" setting

How to Reproduce?

  1. Follow the official FAQ https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium-wiki/blob/master/faq.md#why-do-i-have-to-login-to-websites-every-time-i-open-ungoogled-chromium
  2. Disable the setting Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows
  3. Browser continues clear the cookie and logs you out. The browser ignores this setting completely, it behaves the same when this setting is both disabled or enabled.

Actual behaviour

  1. By default, ungoogled-chromium clears cookies when you close the browser.
  2. Following the official FAQ, I disabled the settings Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows which was on by default.
  3. Browser continues clear cookies and log me out after disabling the settings above in step 2.

The browser ignores the setting Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows it behaves exactly the same when on or off.

Expected behaviour

  1. By default, ungoogled-chromium clears cookies when you close the browser.
  2. Following the official FAQ, I disabled the settings Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows which was on by default. 3. Browser should NOT clear all cookies and log me out from all websites after closing the browser.

Relevant log output

No response

Additional context

I really want to figure out how to make this browser stop clearing cookies after closing. Toggling Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows to disabled doesn't do anything and behaves the same as if it's enabled.

How did this program get installed?

I installed this program via brew install the popular command-line package manager on macOS. It installs the latest binary on this repo.

$ brew info eloston-chromium

Same here. To me cookies live 24 hours then they expire, even without closing the program. It maybe related to this: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1145569

Edit: Fixed my problem with disabling "Block third-party cookies"

chrome://settings/cookies/
using “the website that can always use cookies” can partially solve the problem.

This combination worked for me. Although I don't recall seeing the option to "Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows" when I first checked the setting post-install. Either I missed it or it was only available after changing one/both of the other two.

Maybe this helps, as I have struggled quite a lot myself to find the setting along the way. This is where I found it in Version 119.0.6045.105 (Official Build, ungoogled-chromium) (64-bit) on Windows 11:
