  • There are several grammatical errors in this paragraph, and I think it is unnecessarily long. I provide a replacement below. Check it thoroughly before incorporating it.

As the name of the book states, this is a book for hackers. This word has been used for a long time with different meanings. What we mean by hackers is what Eric S. Raymond describes in The Jargon File:

here is a suggestion of a shorter version, but with the quote from Jon Erickson's book, which I think is important

As the name of the book states, this is a book for Hackers. Ironically, the term can have opposite connotations, depending on who is pronouncing it and to whom it refers to. In media and pop culture, the term is associated with cyber-criminals, people who use computer techniques with malicious intentions. In the cyber-security domain, hackers are, as stated in the final chapter of Hacking: The Art of Exploitation by Jon Erickson, "...just people with innovative spirits and an in-depth knowledge of technology". But the definition we found most suitable in regard to the message we want to communicate, is borrowed from The Jargon File's glossary:
