Enable title in original language (alongside EN)
Currently, the title of the resource needs to be in English. However, we feel that it should be possible to also add original name as dictionaries are often known by the name in the original language.
E.g. to the title 'Karelian Dictionary', 'Karjalan lielen sanakirja' would be added.
The complexity of that depends on what exactly you need to achieve... In theory the metadata registry has a field dc.title.alternative
with the following semantics
Varying (or substitute) form of title proper appearing in item, e.g. abbreviation or translation
Which kind of sounds like something you could use*. Though, I guess, the "title proper" is the non English string and 'Karelian Dictionary' is actually the translation.
*You can add it now via edit item (or via other processes); that would probably affect search results (ie. there'd be hits for 'Karjalan lielen sanakirja') but it wouldn't be displayed anywhere. One of the places were it'd make sense is probably the landing page of an item, that can be changed by modifying the item-view.xsl
.
Several other things would need changing if you also want to export the alternative in all oai-pmh formats.
If you are exposing the submission workflow to users; the extra field can be added there as well; you just need to take care describing what the title proper is and what the alternative is.
In edit item you can also specify a language of metadata value, so it might actually be possible to add both into dc.title (and specify different languages). But there might be expectations there's only one title for an item, so I'd be really careful with trying that...
