Computer freezing and crashing

Open Jediico opened this issue 10 months ago • 8 comments

Using ucupaint with blender for the first time. There seems to be an issue with the layer system in where when I change the layer to be anything other than the basic blend mode (multiply, additive, ect) it freezes up my whole computer. Nothing is responsive, the screen freezes, my earbuds disconnect from my computer, and my numlock doesn't toggle. If I try to reopen the file I get the error: "loading failed: failed to read blend file 'file location': missing DNA block" and I have to use an older version of the file from the auto save.

Also want to note, it occurs when layers are toggled on or off. I have monitored my CPU, GPU and all that through the task manager and haven't noticed anything unusual in the usage of resources

I never had that issue before. What PC specs are you using? Also which OS and blender version?

are you using ssd? do your blender always freeze if you do something with ucupaint?

I am working off of an internal ssd and my whole computer freezes up while I am using blender with ucupaint. It doesn't happen all the time; it can happen when dealing with layers specifically

Hmm, that's weird, try to disable other third-party addons and see if that makes any difference.

Thank you for your help, I disabled third party addons and have not had any issues with ucupaint since then. In case it helps you the addons I had enabled were: BlenderKit Camera Shakify ImagePaste Sprytile Painter Texel Density Checker

I am experiencing a similar issue though it only freezes blender (4.3.2) not my whole PC.

Specifically when using a soft edge brush Blender stops responding but not for all brush strokes (I'm possibly going too quick on the strokes with my pen, seems possibly more frequent with pressure sensitivity on) Even just clicking like a stamp and not moving the brush after a few clicks it starts to chug & stop responding, lasting for several minutes. If I end it with task manager I lose all of my progress I had made in that "session" of Blender, despite saving between strokes. I've tried turning off other add-ons.

I figure maybe my PC isn't handling Blender AND Ucupaint well at the same time and that there are blender settings I could fuss with to make it less CPU heavy. So I'm going to start there. :)

Here's my specs if relevant: Blender is installed on my SSD GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER Processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor 3.60 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch Pen support Edition Windows 10 Education Version 22H2 OS build 19045.5608
