Endless "Checking for updates..." on mobile network
- Devices: observed with Pixel 3a (sargo) and Xiaomi Mi A2 (jasmine_sprout)
- Channel: stable
- Build: OTA-22
Steps to reproduce
Connected to mobile network, cellular data enabled, wifi disabled System Settings > Updates
Expected behavior
"Software is up to date" or updates available, after a few seconds
Actual behavior
Displays "Checking for updates..." with an indefinitely rotating circle
Additional information
Good 4G connection (checked) Works fine on wifi
confirmed it used to happen for me as well. But can't reproduce now ( XperiaX RC)
Issue persists with OTA-23, checked with Pixel 3a
Did you set "Download updates on all networks" or whats that called? I agree we should display a message instead of endless checking, but the underlying behaviour is correct, no download if you do not allow it on mobile data, since it can be huge and waste your quota.
In "Update settings", the "Auto download" option is set to "On Wifi". I think this is ok and I don't see why it prevents from knowing if there are updates available? There shouldn't be any waste of data. Checking for updates does not mean downloading the available updates, it basically means running "apt update && apt list --upgradable" then if there are updates you have to click on Download/Install...
I changed "Auto download" to "Always" and same behavior: "Checking for updates..." with an indefinitely rotating circle on mobile network / works fine on wifi
