FR: badblocks - allow supplying percentages for first_block and last_block

Open JohnVeness opened this issue 2 years ago • 0 comments

Hi. I'm using badblocks to test a load of HDDs I have, using e.g. "badblocks -s -w /dev/sdc". For very large and/or slow disks, this can take tens of hours, so I might want to be able to interrupt this and resume it later.

I am aware that I can pass a first_block (and last_block) parameter to tell badblocks where to start (and end). However, it would be nice if I could also enter a percentage, given that the "-s" output shows progress percentages. This would save me having to find out the number of blocks on the drive and use a calculator to determine the starting block number at which to resume!

Alternatively, maybe the -s option could show the current block number as well as the percentage, so I could easily use that number when I want to resume.

Thank you for reading, and many thanks for these tools.
