Amazon echos cannot control virtual switches after update to HA 2023.5.0

When I tell alexa to turn a virtual switch on or off it makes the "I did it beep" but the switch is not changed. As best I can tell this issue began when HA 2023.5 was released. Installing the release and making sure the virtual switch is exposed to alexa using the new voice assistant page does make the virtual switch appear in the list of alexa devices but control does not work.
