It looks like there are a few pull requests for this issue. I commented on them - could this simple thing be fixed? @jharding maybe additional maintainers could be added to the project?

So the story behind this is that this library seems to be unmaintained. See https://github.com/twitter/typeahead.js/issues/1320

Some folks are organizing around an active fork at https://github.com/corejavascript/typeahead.js and I submitted a pull request for this simple change there.
