default configuration?

When looking at https://github.com/twaugh/patchutils/issues/22 I see that for “the proper functionality” of filterdiff -i PATTERN I need to use -p1 every time. Would it be possible to make this option default? Is there some configuration file or configuration environmental variable I could set to make -p1 default?
