No padding if annotation is "" or None

Hello, sometimes I want to highlight (colour) some text but not provide an annotation like NOUN or VERB. However, if I provide "" I still get the padding which looks a bit odd.

I'll be taking a look at the code my end, and if I manage to change the behaviour I'll submit a PR if that's OK?
