Put all the indicator LEDs under software control?
Right now there's LEDs for VBAT and 3.3v power, which seems like a pretty heavy power drain, plus an aesthetic issue if they are too bright when that's not wanted.
Maybe VBAT_OK could be connected to an IO, or better yet, a 10Mohm voltage divider and 0.1uf capacitor could be used to let the ESP measure the battery with an ADC, and any indicator lights desired could be done in software?
Since there's already an addressable LED pixel, maybe that could be used, and the different battery status conditions indicated just via blink patterns.
Great idea! Yes, software control of the LEDs would be nice. I had trouble to fit everything on the board but maybe with only one led a voltage divider could also fit on it.
Also the LEDs could be soldered of. The SYS-Pin could be used for software control as it is LOW for V_Bat < 3.58 V and if battery voltage is above 3.58 V it switches to HIGH.
