Embedded replica write delegation is slow?

There are complaints that write delegation is slower than before. Possibly related to "read-your-write", let's investigate.

I'm currently experiencing this issue. Response times occasionally reach up to 1 second, which defeats the purpose of having a local replica, it's even slower than using a remote instance.

My normal setup is a Fly Machine in the Sydeny region so the closest AWS Region is NRT. I have tried moving my Fly Machine to their NRT are I am still getting multiple second delays writing to the DB.
