Mediawiki breaks when VisualEditor is enabled and log in required to view wiki

As per the subject line, it has been reported on the MediaWiki appliance if VisualEditor is enabled and configured to require log in to view the wiki, it breaks.

I'm wondering if it's perhaps related to CORS?
