Webservice query for inactive fields leads to fatal errors

I think we should do better on queries that ask for inactive fields through a webservice call. When that is the case, we should return an empty string, or a predefined string like 'inactive'. Right now, satellite applications can break when you hide a field in the main application that is used in a satellite application.
