You need to turn off opening books in the main window to open multiple books at the same time. 
Also make sure you are using the latest 1.4.7 version.
> Tested using 1.4.7. Koodo Reader only open pdf if enabling "Open books in the main window" thus not is possible open multiple pdfs. OS is Lubuntu (Ubuntu using LXQT)...
