GPS, battery questions
Hi, very interesting project and very nice execution and documentation! I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind (dunno whether this is the best place to ask):
-
What made you conclude that the quectel module has lower power consumption than a uBlox M10? When I look at the datasheets I find them equivalent, with the caveat that I can't find voltages corresponding to the mA figures in Quectel's docs. In the end doesn't the acquisition time almost matter more than +/-1mA in the datasheet? Maybe you tested both side-by-side...I find the cloud locate feature of the M10 very attractive: it could be combined with periodic "conventional" fixes for geofencing. I don't quite understand the storage requirements, however (the uBlox docs are vague).

Where do you source a 30mAh LiPO that weighs 0.55g? In one of the photos I see one that says NOVACELL 301012P but I can't find that on Nova Battery's site and an Alibaba listing only shows a version with protection board which weighs over 1g.

Are you continuing to update this project or is it essentially archived?
Thanks much!
Hey, thanks for your questions. The M10 wasn't out when I started with the project. Might be a good alternative, but it definitely is significant more expensive. We get our 30 mAh LiPos from a German webshop: https://www.mikromodellbau.de/. Yes, the project is updated. We were running a lot of tests and will share results. Best
I look forward to an update! I just got an M10 module and hope to test the CloudLocate stuff. The datasheet and such are very vague... I wish there were more open source projects of this nature around! Thanks for the link to the LiPO. It looks like that model now incorporates a protection PCB and the weight is listed at 0.8g. Maybe you removed the PCB or got an older model without protection PCB?
