No trace of external URL and need a DEBUG switch

Just started with mtr.

Startup with just 'mtr'. It works fine on my old box (running antiX 19 Linux) but on the new box (running antiX 21 Linux) does not output any data (traceroute failing?) when I replace 'localhost' with an external Internet address. However, a command like 'mtr external.url' works fine. Have verified that 'traceroute external.url' works as expected.

As I can find no DEBUG mode, I'm unable to diagnose further.
