[Enterprise] TODOs and Tweaks
Just opening an issue to track more stuff for the Enterprise docs now that we've got things ported over here. Gonna keep editing this top comment with a checklist, as things come up, and keep any notes/discussion below:
- [x] DOCUMENT HA setups
- [ ] Rework the rabbitmq cert - it could use a test run through, and possible some corrections (there might be history on travis slack)
- [ ] Clarify the installation wording
- [x] Tweak GHE/.com wording to clarify we support both
- [x] Note on the OAuth app that trailing slashes on urls mean sadness in first auth AND that
https
/http
designation must be correct - [x] Include link to Prereqs on the installation page
- [x] Update the "Docker Builds" doc for Trusty #1725
- [ ] Custom timeouts
- [x] Custom Queues
- [x] Add prereqs and install page to fill-in snippets
- [ ] Document which features are supported by Enterprise and which are not (more details: https://github.com/travis-ci/docs-travis-ci-com/issues/1526#issuecomment-354732858)
- [ ] Just everything about the Admin Console
- [ ] IaaS Providers
- [ ] GCE
- [ ] Azure
- [ ] DO
- [ ] Add a short clarification to remind folks to use permanent storage, since the install just assumes it
- [ ] Improve build image customizations for Trusty and Xenial
- [x] Explain worker uninstall requires manual delete of docker images
Of course, @plaindocs @schultyy @MariadeAnton @bnferguson @danishkhan please feel free to add stuff to this issue and (better yet!) check things off if you get to them
Because I just came across it: Updating the "Docker builds" docs for Trusty
@schultyy ah, awesome - thank you! Just added to the todo list in the top comment. Feel free to update the docs and check it off, if you get to it before I do :)
For setting up custom queues here's a rough draft: https://gist.github.com/bnferguson/7565294f7f12d4d78b1e028c6707f8c9
I added a big, bold note about documenting HA setup
More explanation for Document which features are supported by Enterprise and which are not
:
We more and more get support requests from customers who run into problems because they're configuring their build with options not supported by us, for instance language: swift
or sudo: required
. These features are only available on hosted.
Our docs need to be explicit in pointing out which feature works where. I have something in mind similar to the Browser Compability
section in the MDN docs example.
@acnagy
I'm working on setting up an enterprise trial of Travis for my organization right now. Do you have any documentation at all on how to setup Travis in HA mode?
Hey @SmoshySmosh! Well, uh, this issue is about as up-to-date to date as it looks (many things here still on our todo list - but I checked a few off!). However, it seems like now's a great time to write some HA docs. Mind emailing us at [email protected] (feel free to ask for me or @schultyy) and we can help get things sorted while we work on this? Thanks so much!
Hi @acnagy! Way ahead of you. I believe my boss and I have ticket # 492 open and are waiting on a response.
@SmoshySmosh so sorry it's been like forever, but I do have this PR on HA, if you wanna have a look/try things out! https://github.com/travis-ci/docs-travis-ci-com/pull/1877
Thanks for contributing to this issue. As it has been 90 days since the last activity, we are automatically closing the issue. This is often because the request was already solved in some way and it just wasn't updated or it's no longer applicable. If that's not the case, please do feel free to either reopen this issue or open a new one. We'll gladly take a look again! @muizzk @ssabrii Here's a good issue of short things to work on for Enterprise docs! I added a few just now in the top comment, and assigned you. Take it from here, and best of luck! 🚀 🎉
