feature request: drop $ from math symbols if in math environment

It would be useful, to avoid later errors pdf2latex compiling, being able to avoid to enclose a math symbol between a pair of $ when inside a math environment.

This is the reason I opened the previous issue.

Assigning this to @mkraetke. I think he already attempts at avoiding re-opening math mode within math mode. It might be useful that you send him a sample document to reproduce your case. If you send it to [email protected], Martin and I will receive it.
