state the project is unmaintained and link to fork

This project is no longer maintained, but there is an actively maintained fork. That would be useful information to put in the README

Does the forked project intend to merge pull requests from Toby's project? My PR has been waiting almost exactly a year.

I don't know if the fork has reviewed the pulls here. The fork is called "scorched" and can be found at https://github.com/lugensa/scorched

You could try raising an issue, or a fresh pull request there.
