Is it possible to use ruffle on Android 4.4?

Open m00nligh7 opened this issue 10 months ago • 8 comments

Hi. I've got a problem, that ruffle doesn't support Android 4.4. I just wanted to play some flash games on my old smartphone. But i saw, that ruffle-android was using java before, but now, its using kotlin. (WHY? T_T) So is it possible to use ruffle on android 4.4 right now or is it not?

(Sorry for this questions, as i know, kotlin apps dont work on android 4.4 and older, but just want to know, what can i do to use ruffle on it as app)

(can u delete this issue later, please, when we finish our conversation? :_))

I hope, u will add support for androids < android 8.0.

That will be really amazing, if u add support for Android < Android 8.0. From minSDK 19 and higher.

What kind of phone do you using? I mean, I have used old android 6.0 phone which was dying trying to launch ruffle.

@SladkiyTort I am using Gionee M2 right now as my "gaming handheld", so i wanted to use Ruffle on it, but bcz of Android 4.4, i cant launch it anyway. Because Ruffle-Android using AAudio lib what available starting from Android 8.

P. S: Thats why i am asking, what if it is possible to change audio backend in the android version of Ruffle :shrug:

P. P. S: yes, Gionee M2 is too old, but i still like it, he can handle most of emulators, that i want :)

Is the phone even powerful enough to run it?..

@MasterCraft6969 Yes, why not?

@MasterCraft6969 Yes, why not?

Because it's a phone that runs android 4.4?.. I'd assume it wouldn't be a very smooth experience but maybe I'm wrong

@MasterCraft6969 i optimized android rom and i use it as emulator station, it can emulate from NES to NDS(including PSP and some 3d platform like N64). Flash Player is oldy, 2d games is not so heavy to run i think. I know, Android 4.4 is old, but anyway its cool to try to run Ruffle on it.

And as i know, Rust is supporting api 19 anyway, thats why i am asking XD

Personally I wouldn't mind to see how far it would push. Especially because period correct puffin browser (iOS) already ran flash. I had issues running ruffle in browser on android 6 (tried latest fennec and bromite, gets stuck on loading), so I'm scratching my curiosity if dedicated app would do much in terms of performance.
