Create an official thread in the forum for updates?
This is not an "issue", but rather a suggestion. I’m posting it here since there's no “discussion” tab on this GitHub.
Have you considered creating an official thread in the OSM Community Forum to announce updates and share progress? A sort of user-friendly changelog. It’s proven to be an effective way to increase visibility and engagement, see these examples:
- Better-osm-org: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/better-osm-org-a-script-that-adds-useful-little-things-to-osm-org/121670
- osm.org: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/what-s-new-on-the-openstreetmap-website/130080
- osm-NG: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/the-next-generation-of-openstreetmap-in-python/105621
- The now unmantained Streets GL had a popular thread as well: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/streets-gl-a-new-3d-renderer-for-osm/98594
For instance, I recently found on the wiki that:
OSM2World now has 3DMR support
That would have been a great update to share in a forum thread. It would allow users to stay informed, ask questions, and give feedback, without needing a GitHub account.
Thanks for the encouragement! Since last year, OSM2World does have a blog, which I've used for larger announcements (although I'm probably not posting as often as I probably should). However, I absolutely agree with using the forum for extra visibility and to encourage two-way communications. I'm not yet sure about using one giant thread instead of one thread per update/question using the #osm2world tag, but one way or the other, I'll make sure to write about future news on the forum. 🙂
For instance, I recently found on the wiki that:
OSM2World now has 3DMR support
The main reason I've not announced this particular feature more widely yet is that it only works with the glTF-based rewrite of 3DMR which is currently still in beta testing.
