better management of many plot windows -- need a concept

Instead of many plot windows, it might be nice to have a more manageable interface (when launching plots from monitr, for example). ideas:

• tabs (downside: can't look at multiple plots)
• docks (speed? will it get messy?)
• some MDI interface?

it might also be nice to have a single autoplot window be able to look through multiple datasets? (but that has many caveats)
