Global | Road Network Improvements
Project description
Goal
At TomTom, we proudly support OpenStreetMap (OSM) communities around the world in the mission to create a more accurate and usable map for all.
As part of this project, we’re contributing locations of missing highway segments back to the global OSM community. By filling these gaps, we hope to help ensure better representation of real-world features—leading to improved routing, navigation, and an overall stronger open mapping ecosystem.
When appropriate, our team will also work on the improvements under TomTom’s open data projects. If it is more suitable to be solved without organized help, we will leave it to local users interested in completing the tasks.
How To Participate
Anyone is welcome to contribute to this project by accessing the missing roads dataset and adding the missing road segments to OpenStreetMap on the specified locations making use of publicly available data sources and imagery sets for OpenStreetMap edits. We also strongly encourage you to make use of the country-specific resources and guidelines listed in the OSM wiki: List of territory based projects
Edits Based on Map Feedback
The features in the shared dataset are based on user feedback submitted for the TomTom map after comparing and ensuring that it is also valid for OSM.
Here is a list of the types of edits to be made, if they do not conflict with others’ edits and a local source is available:
- Adding or correcting highways
- **Adding or correcting link roads **
Please note that some locations within the dataset may no longer require editing because the missing segments have already been added by other contributors.
Geographical Scope:
The project dataset contains features across the World.
