9.1., could be clearer
"For example, suppose a group of patients has been undergoing an experimental treatment and have had their health assessed to see whether their condition has improved, stayed the same or worsened. A goodness-of-fit test could be used to determine whether the numbers in each category - improved, no change, worsened - match the numbers that would be expected given the standard treatment option."
If I understand what this is trying to say, I think it would be clearer if the second sentence was:
"A goodness-of-fit test could be used to determine whether the numbers in each category - improved, no change, worsened - match the numbers that would be expected given the standard treatment option, or differ significantly from those numbers, lending evidence to the claim that the experimental treatment is more effective than the standard treatment."
