The problem with displaying the signal in dBm.
All networks in the wicd program display -1dBm.

It seems to be working okay for me (wicd-gtk). Maybe try another network management tool and see if that works?
can you try this again with the version in master? Apparently a side effect of fixing it for kernel 5.6 is that signal strength is now working again for some users.
Appologize me for my fast answer about good signal level notification for kernel 5.6rc1. This is not true.
It shown small signal for first time and that was real small signal(1 level on widget) in that network.
After reboot, I have not any signal level anytime. Might be that works if start module at first time?
What is weird: not connected wi-fi networks are show level. Connected networks - does not show.
Once when I stay on this picture and try to create this screenshot it shown wifi level on conected wifi network "home-ac" for half second and again drop value to minimal. This is 802.11ac network.
May be this is 802.11ac behaviour. Not.
I has additional network "home" (that is 802.11gn). If I connect to it, then I can see level of my "home-ac" network as disconnected network, but "home" as connected network does not shows level.
Twice while I creating screenshot I had see in widget 100% leveling, but after some short time I lost indication.
From cli it works fine:
iwlist scanning
...
Quality=67/100 Signal level=-61 dBm
...
But if I use kernel 5.0 - I have not these troubles. Widget shown all levels good. Looks like module return not clear data and widget can not recognize it under some specific scope.
