Disable notifications easily

We would like to temporarily disable the notification of our Jenkins instance when performing larger updates or configuration changes. Right now there does not seem to be a convenient way to to this. Our current and rather verbose approach is to switch the trigger buttons from everyone to admins only and to add some nonsense string to "Filter regexp" so that it will never match.
