Community translations

Tolgee is currently used by many open source projects, but Tolgee doesn't support safe way of community translating. It can limit translate permissions to the specific users, but the user can then modify all the strings in the language. We need to provide a better way, where the community members would be able to only propose changes, which have to be approved and merged by somebody permitted. This can be very related to branches feature.

  • [ ] Enable users to mark their projects public
  • [ ] Enable Tolgee users to propose translations of strings in public projects
  • [ ] Enable project owners or people with specific permission to review the proposal and accept it
  • [ ] Would be nice to show a back-translation of the proposed translation with Machine translation so project owners who don't speak the english would be able to check it's at least somewhat correct.
  • [ ] We can provide a special "translate UI", which will show only single string and large screenshot

Here are some of my thoughts.

  1. When making projects public there should be a signup landing page - where the user selects which languages they wish to participate in (logged in users can revisit that site to get invited to more languages). One thing to consider is should users be able to add new languages - or only select from existing ones (or maybe another toggle function)

  2. Yes, there should be a "suggestion" or similar stage. Edits made by a "public" role should be pending approval. Multiple suggestions should be show - with the corresponding author - and allow users to add a new translation or upvote one they think is correct

  3. There should be a reviewer/moderator role - who can be a community member - and they are able to approve/accept the changes.

I would suggest somewhere to have a tag - to show "external" contribution. So, project managers can see which translations are from external sources, and even if it was "approved" whether it was approved by an "external" contributor or an "internal" member.

For translations maybe there needs to be filter for "untranslated" and "untranslated by me" (hiding any translations they voted on)
