Add integration with Amplenote

Describe the solution you'd like

I want:

  1. A Toggl Button to appear to the right of every task on the Amplenote website/PWA, similarly to how it does in Todoist and Habitica.

Video showcasing Amplenote tasks (todos) and the difference between tasks and non-task text/bullets, which shouldn't get a toggl button

  1. Toggl buttons for everything in so-called "Calendar View," whether added from Amplenote or imported from the user's linked calendar. Example of Amplenote calendar view Another example of calendar view

Currently Amplenote has very few integrations - namely it can sync to Google Calendar if you add tasks to your calendar within Amplenote. There's no way to sync e.g., newly created tasks. They only just opened up their API to detect things like when a task is checked off - but even that API doesn't seem to be able to detect when a task is created. Because of this, there's no way to get my tasks into toggl unless I first schedule them manually in my calendar in Amplenote, after which I can use the toggl extension to track time in Google Calendar, or sync my Gcal events to Google Tasks, Todoist, etc., where I can then track time with Toggl, but only for those tasks I decided to timebox for. This makes it impossible to just pick up a task and go with it if I want to use Toggl to track my time, even though this IS psosible in Todoist.

I don't actually want to use Todoist - Amplenote is where I do all my planning, note-taking, task management, todo-list organizing, timeboxing, and checking off (and that's what it's designed for). Currently I only use Todoist as an adapter from Habitica to Exist.io, since I like to track my dailies in Habitica (which thankfully integrates with the toggl track extension). Well, I actually need to go through Make (formerly known as Integromat) to connect Habitica to Todoist, but you get the idea.

It's unclear if Amplenote will add more integrations like with Integromat/Make or Zapier or webhooks or anything, and being unable to flexibly track my time is kind of my primary pain point with Amplenote. In order to sync all my Habitica stuff with the services I want I've had to jump through a lot of hoops, but I've been lucky that the right tools already existed for my needs. Currently, Amplenote just has a half-baked IFTTT integration, which doesn't even have any triggers - it just lets you create tasks in Amplenote. Without a trigger that detects task creation in Amplenote, though, IFTTT isn't useful for, e.g., syncing all my created tasks with Todoist so that I can use toggl - so I'm back to square one. A direct Toggl extension integration would eliminate the need to wait for a huge overall to Amplenote's integration support, and for me to jump through all these other hoops (which are insufficient for my workflow anyway, so I'm rly hoping for this integration).

(Note: I added the thumbs up reaction myself so that the Amplenote community could easily show their support for this issue)

Hey there, just 1-uping this. Would love to see this.

Hey there, There is an unofficial Amplenote-Toggl Track integration plugin! that could help. https://www.amplenote.com/plugins/1v3vCijAidQnkJu8TDiQJAeR

@MahmoudFahiem Hey, thanks for making that extension. If you could add the toggle button itself the way I've described here, it might fit the bill.

However, as it stands, that plugin seems to require about a dozen or more keystrokes/user inputs more than I can personally stand to do every time I want to track something.

I already have my own custom toggl integration that adds a button, that I've gotten to work by combining the toggl extension with Amino CSS. It's not perfect, but it's 1 click, and I just pray it survives any update to Amplenote or Toggl for as long as possible.

Any integration would have to be better than my own custom solution to be worth using for me - and namely, it would have to have the Toggl button, which I think is really the whole point of Toggl/why it has a button as its logo. Anything else is IMO not even "Toggl" as far as I'm concerned

Sry to say all that so harshly - I just don't want Toggl or Amplenote people to read these thread and think this is a solved problem that no longer needs a solution. It's still very much a problem in need of a solution that one would think ought to be simple if the Toggl and Amplenote devs exchange a bit of information. 🙏
