Deprecated Linux client?
The updated README mentions new versions for windows and mac, does it mean that you're deprecating support for linux? Or will that come in the future as well?
/cc @kornelijepetak (as you updated the readme)
Hey @xdmx! Thanks for showing the interest in our product.
Sadly, I have to inform you that the answer is positive. As the matter of fact, Linux wasn't supported for almost half a year now, at least in terms of new updates or fixes.
🔗 This article from our blog explains things much better than I could, so please check it out.
In particular, there's a subsection Deprecation of the Toggl Track Linux app
which might be of interest to you.
Thank you @kornelijepetak, I missed that post.
I gave the Firefox extension a try, but unfortunately it's still missing some features that the desktop client has, making it barely usable (I still have to use the desktop client): autocompletion of the task name/description and the ability to see and change the start/end dates of a task (both for ended and currently running tasks) are the two biggest blockers for me before I can switch over :disappointed:
Having the ability to open it from anywhere/other apps using a shortcut would also be useful, but I think that's a limitation of having it as a browser extension
So if community wanted to keep up the toggle desktop for linux alive - can we contribute here or should we do our own fork?
@kornelijepetak The link to the blog https://toggl.com/blog/purposeful-open-source is showing 404 error now, can you please update it?
@MurzNN Hey, thanks for pointing this out. The page should be online again as we speak.
@furai Sorry, I just realized I haven't replied to your comment. 🤦♂️
Given that we don't have enough resources to push it forward, handle the community rights/permissions, or make sure the existing PRs are merged, I'd say that it's a better solution to fork it and continue from there.
