Run app on Windows login issue

Open VeljkoTN opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

💻 Environment

Platform: Windows OS Version: Windows 10 Toggl Version: 7.4.418

🐞 Actual behavior

When the "run app on Win login" feature is enabled the app will run when you log into windows but it will not be in focus. You will only be able to see it running ty the tray icon that appears. If the tray icon is hidden away you might not even notice.

💯 Expected behavior

When the "run app on Win login" feature is enabled the main app window should appear in focus on the screen when the app is started.

🔨 Steps to reproduce

  1. Enable the "run app on Win login" feature
  2. Sign out of Windows
  3. Sign back in and observe what happens on the screen and in the tray

The current behavior is by design, so this is not a bug.

I'll treat this issue as a feature request to add a setting for the window to appear on the screen when starting on Windows login, as many other Windows apps do (screenshot from Slack settings): image

When I enable the "run app on Win login" feature, the Toggl Track v7.5.445 (64-bit) starts maximized which is annoying. I would like to start the app in the background, so setting for the window to NOT appear on the screen when starting on Windows would be appreciated.

Hi, I have installed the version from github and the app is started hidden. Then I try to install back version from Microsoft Store and the app is stated with displayed window.

This is definitelly bug, but if @VeljkoTN wants displayed UI, just install app from Microsoft Store.

@kudlav thanks for sharing this! We're not sure why this behavior is different depending on where you get the app from but we can look into it.

Thanks again for letting us know about this!

Thanks for reporting this @kudlav! The behavior should be uniform indeed and it's best to have a setting to control whether the app starts minimized.

The Store app and the standalone app use different mechanisms to run the app on Windows login, so that's probably why starting minimized doesn't work for the Store app. We'll look into it.
