Mini Tracker in Start-taskbar Option

Open ghost opened this issue 4 years ago • 6 comments

💻 Environment

TogglDesktop

Platform: Windows

📒 Description

Having a mini tracker option to embed in Windows start task-bar.

⭐️ Why do you want this?

The mini tracker option is a useful one to ensure I am tracking the correct task, especially since sometimes I have to switch tasks quickly.

However, it is not practical because it overlays other programmes which means I have to keep moving it.

There is no good place to have the mini tracker, other than the Windows taskbar (where windows start is and pinned programmes and notifications bar).

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE :)

Another vote for this - moving the mini tracker somewhere that it doesn't get in the way can be tricky sometimes. If this gets the green light, please remember those of us who have our start bar in a vertical orientation when designing it.

All that's really required to be visible at all times is the task name and timer. Everything else could be on a slide-out window or even (for iteration 1) just a click opens the main Toggl window.

This would be a big help for me (and probably others too!).

I've researched this some time ago and saved a few links that might help implement it (the APIs are really old, and so are the links): https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/2219/Extending-Explorer-with-Band-Objects-using-NET-and https://stackoverflow.com/questions/35882294/how-to-add-content-to-windows-taskbar https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/shobjidl/nn-shobjidl-ideskband2

I like the idea of the taskbar, but it looks like it is a lot of work. I've only been using the tracker for 1 day and I really like the mini tracker, however it does get in the way from time to time. I was thinking that making it "run away" along the snapped plane when the mouse comes at it from the sides, then snaps back to where it was once the mouse leaves the area.

While I like this Idea, I found a workaround that is to reserve screen size for the toolbar. I did that with the application MaxTo, I had to play a bit with its config file to achieve the size I want it but it was worth it. You could check some screenshots here https://github.com/digitalcreations/MaxTo/issues/761

You could think on that alternative too, maybe is more simple to implement.

Would love to see the mini-timer running in the taskbar in some way. +1 for this request.

Agree this would be a great addition. It also would make it much easier to see if a timer is running because the mini window would always be visible.
