Allow routing notifications for orgs you're not a member of

Open willnorris opened this issue 8 years ago • 13 comments

From a Google engineer:

I get github.com/google notifications at my google address. Because I'm a member of the google github Organization and have that configured. I get all other notifications at my personal address as desired.

But when someone adds me to an issue on the tensorflow project, that lands in my personal email address.

This is inappropriate.

Github doesn't appear to have a way for me to choose where to direct emails from an Organization I am not a member of. :( The "Custom routing" section of https://github.com/settings/notifications only lists organizations I belong to for me to choose routing.

How do we do this?

I don't work directly on tensorflow so asking to be added to the github.com/tensorflow org. does not make sense to me as all I am looking for is proper email routing.

I have exactly the same request. On behalf of my employer I liaise with community ecosystem projects. It would be great to have those emails go to the correct context - my work address.

Is there an update on this issue? It is difficult to not be able to control which email I get notifications to, and they often get lost in the wrong inbox.

There are many projects I interact with that are a part of organizations for which I'm not a member, but contribute to issues/discussions. It would be extremely useful to be able to route these notifications to the right email.

So I was fighting with this as well, no ability to manually enter an organization, organization does not show up if you follow up. This is obnoxious

Whether I receive email from or related to an organization and whether I belong to an organization are two independent, orthogonal things. They should not be coupled in the custom routing configuration. I want to be able to route email that I (do currently, actually) receive pertaining to "Foo Org" even though I am not a member of "Foo Org"
