Newbie on Ubuntu server: How to have blink1 flash when USB drive is being read/written, then go green when unmounted

I'm willing do polling inside a script, but I'd really rather something more elegant.

Wishlist

  • Off when USB drive is unplugged
  • Red when it's plugged in and mounted
  • Flashing with USB drive activity (ok, now I'm just getting greedy)
  • Green when the drive is inserted but unmounted
  • Separately track 2x pairs of blink1 USB stick on the same computer (my initial thought is pair them based on the USB hub they are both attached to, then have 2x 2-port usb hubs)
