Running update plugins via binding doesn't show update messages on tmux 2.5

If you update plugins using the keybinding, you don't see the update messages on tmux 2.5. It seems to be something to do with sending Ctrl-C during the command-prompt template, if I remove it then I can see the messages, but the screen doesn't clear like it used to before showing the messages.
