`ioreg -l | grep IOPlatformSerialNumber | awk '{print $NF}'` will provide the device's serial number

And MAC address can be changed, which I occasionally have to do for people to help them bypass Comcast device authorizations.

I was just bit by this one this morning as my ISP delivered a new router which, when my devices connected to it, renamed all `hostname.local` to `hostname.lan`.
