New dungeon areas
We can make the dungeon feel even more alive and varied!
Some ideas below - variations very welcome.
- Swamp lair:
- Vines (glyph §) -- block vision and movement until they are cut down, but treated for pathfinding purposes as passable
- Some kind of immobile carnivorous plant that seizes you and inflicts gradual poison damage
- Potion of life or scroll of enchantment surrounded by a few carnivorous plant monsters
- Other swampy monsters -- nagas, bog monsters?
- Walls are greenish and described as moss-covered stone
- Spider lair: open circular rooms, webs scattered around, spiders, bones, chasm areas with web bridges
- Inferno: salamanders, wisps, flamedancers. Pools of lava with sleeping salamanders, obsidian everywhere, purple obsidian walls, toss in some braziers and fire traps. Reward is a potion of life, since enchant scrolls burn? Also maybe put a potion of fire immunity somewhere on the level.
Spider area:
- Maybe we can rarely throw in enemies that we don't appreciate getting hit by in webs (conjurers, centipedes, pixies, centaurs)
- It would be interesting to have several small gaps 1-2 tiles in width (maybe hidden at first?) in place of chasms, so that we have to manage keeping the spiders alive, and there's more room for actual features.
- Maybe rare side rooms with a hidden gap, a spider, and a good magic item or runic gear on a pedestal
- Any fire traps/wisps in here or would that be too much?
- Potential boss spider at the end?
Fire area:
- Guaranteeing fire immunity might make it a little simple; we figure out how to deal with flamedancers without them, right?
- Maybe having the reward be a scroll of enchanting would be more interesting? If every monster is sleeping and the flamedancers are placed far away from the scroll, the scroll couldn't burn on its own. Just to make picking up the scroll interesting, maybe salamander whips should burn every tile they touch, or the player burns a scroll if they are burning as they pick it up...
A couple more ideas (should different ideas get different tickets?):
dar village: similar to goblin warren, but are rings of floor with wall-pillars in the middle, separated by chasms with rope bridges. Dars blink around if needed, and casters have increased LOS, but players/monsters/items can still play games hiding behind pillars. New leader dar variant (sorcerer): can throw spark bolts (from a 5-10 lighting staff), summon battlemages, blinks and keeps distance. Like the warren, the area may spawn with additional gear, perhaps rings, staffs and/or charms.
ogre village: similar to warren, but open ground with numerous small lakes and lava flows to be knocked into. Headed by existing ogre mage. Perhaps guarantees extra consumables. This might need some extra ogre variants to flush it out as well.
