advanced-cache.php was edited or deleted...

Talking about getting frustrated. Tried to turn Simple Cache on, and received a non-useful error message:

wp-content/advanced-cache.php was edited or deleted. Simple Cache is not able to utilize page caching.

I am expecting SC to create this file for itself, permissions are fine, and if SC can't find it's own advanced-cache.php then where should I pull it from..., best guess? Clicking the Fix button, just redisplays the same error message. Hmmm.

Mind giving some details on your environment?

Basically sounds like some permissions or a conflicting plugin which also makes use of the advanced-cache file (or tries to keep it away as it would conflict).

Have seen it happen with WP-Rocket but that's just common sense. You need to make a choice in who will do the disk file based actions basically.
