Observed properties for Fitting stellar parameters

Open roygomel opened this issue 4 years ago • 0 comments

Dear Timothy,

I wish to estimate the stellar mass of a star using the following observed properties: stellar radius, effective temperature, photometric magnitudes (GAIA + 2MASS + WISE), the measured parallax and an estimate of the reddening or extinction.

I read the relevant section and saw that it seems to be quite straight forward, despite the "observed" extinction. Is it possible to define such a value (which I adopt from an extinction map for example)?

Another issue is about stars with distance > 10 kpc (which is the upper prior limit). For these stars, should I modify the distance prior distribution? Specifically, I am interested in the LMC population.

Thanks a lot, Roy
