Translation to other languages
Hello,
I love your software. I want to translate it into German. Can you tell me which files I need to translate?
Currently, the application is not prepared for translations so there is no way to point you to files that would need translation. Preparing support for translation is on our roadmap but without an ETA.
Thanks for letting me know.
And I'd be glad to translate it into French :)
Russian.
Maybe after group OMEMO? :)
I love your software too!
I will do the translation to Catalan language as soon as possible :-)
Translation would make it much more attractive to give out to the vast majority of non-native-English-speaking friends and family users. :+1:
I love to use weblate.org in the near future for translating. ;o) (it's free and also gratis for free software projects like siskin)
Thanks for your great work.
Helping with translation is now possible via https://translate.tigase.net/projects/siskin-im/ :)
OAuth via Github, why do you need more than email address? why "Organizations and teams: This application will be able to read your organization, team membership, and private project boards."
?
@licaon-kter That question is to Weblate (or rather Python Social Auth?), as we have just enabled GitHub integration without changing requested scopes. I'm not even sure if there is a way to adjust that.
Eg. I don't see this need for https://hosted.weblate.org
It should now use reduced permission scope
Can you make the CLA global? It asks me to agree for each "component"....
Also, I've asked for my locale back then, still not available?
@licaon-kter With Weblate it is possible only to configure CLA for "component", so you would need to first ask Weblate to add this feature.
Also, I've asked for my locale back then, still not available?

Can you explain the workflow?
Eg. I can only SUGGEST strings at the moment, not actually translate them (this feels like you forgot to toggle something for your Weblate instance)
Any news?
Also "Automatic translation" is missing, is this a limitation of you self hosting Weblate?
Currently we are trying the workflow and decided on using suggestion to submit the translations. I think in the future we can promote verified translators and allow direct translation (though, we are still learning weblate and how to operate it correctly).
We will enable automatic translation once 4.13 version is available as heml chart though we would prefer contributors to do the translation instead of relying on automatic services
Who is gonna verify my translation to my niche language where only I contribute? So I suggest, then what, my suggestion will sit there unused?
Sounds good in theory, in practice all my translations are never (there's like only one for a non-FOSS service client) reviewed.
Not to mention dubious CLAs and whatnot. Pfft
Regarding translation helpers, they are not perfect yes, but say Deepl gets pretty close, and having to correct a word here or there surely beats having to write 2034 words manually.
I completely agree with @licaon-kter.
Can you please adjust the translation settings to allow direct translation and if necessary review per language. Suggestions are not very useful and quite inconvenient. Otherwise it takes months or years to realise a complete translation.
I can do the translation (and review) for german. I also do this for many libre apps.
We are reluctant to open up completely and freely all translations (and we are also still learning Weblate and trying to figure out best workflow). I added both of you (@licaon-kter and @nautilusx ) to SiskinIM project with additional permissions - please let me know if the workflow is better now (and possibly how it could be improved)
Eg. Conversations, last year an user popped up in the support channel, apparently there was no Finnish translation (surprise?), after a lot of back and forth (Transifex being a pain) they got added to the team. Then they proceeded to translate. Done.
We understand the reluctance, you should understand that there are not that many enthousiasts willing to translate FOSS app to begin with and each hurdle keeps them away.
I'm aware that this is a process and it relies on contributions and the community. I think that current approach with adding people manually would be most reasonable middleground :-)
@woj-tek can you please add me too?
@pitchum done
@woj-tek can you please add me? Thank you
@woj-tek the german translation is now ready and can be merged.
On a few source strings i added comments on weblate. The source strings should be changed and described more accurately here. It is used only general "room" instead of specific "group chat" or "channel".
Made some comments like that too 👍

@nautilusx & @licaon-kter thank your for the comments.
