Add Unified Account support

Open wmontwe opened this issue 6 months ago • 5 comments

Currently the app only supports a unified inbox.

To conclude the drawer ui changes we need to add support for a unified account view showing Outbox, Drafts, Sent, Spam and Trash as unified folders.

Hi,

While you are Fixing Unified Inbox / Folders support, Are you able to add support for a per account Unified Folder? I only have one account with many folders and have used / abused Unified Inbox for this functionality, however with the drawer changes in 12.1 I is show separately as its own account which leads to slow switch to an individual folder (#9568 ). If Unified Folders are becoming more of a first class feature, we could support having a in account unified folder which merges selected folder for that account which is exactly what i am looking for.

Thanks for all the hard work.

Any chance you can support arbitrary folders (not just inbox, sent, spam)? If a user has rules server side that move mail to different folders, it would be great to be able to show those [folders] in the unified account.

Server side rules are relatively common for work email accounts.

This would allow unified account to truly be one stop to stay on top of multiple mailboxes.

We will bring back favorite folders (currently called Top Group). They will appear in a section directly below the standard folders for quick access.

What you’re looking for are virtual folders. That isn’t currently planned for this round of updates, though it’s possible the existing functionality could be repurposed. However, we can’t make any promises—this code is quite old and may not be salvageable.

We let you map the standard folders to any folder you prefer. The inbox is listed as “Auto-select folder”. To change this, go to Settings → Account → Folders and adjust the mappings as you like.

Thanks for your reply @wmontwe .

I don't think this is the same as what I meant. If I'm understanding correctly, the mapping you are suggesting allows a predefined list of folders (Archive, Drafts, Sent, Spam and Trash) to be associated to arbitrary folders in a mailbox.

What I meant was the ability to display arbitrary folders [separately] in Unified Account at the top level.

In your screenshot at the top of the issue, unified account shows standard folders that can be mapped to some folders in mailboxes (as you mentioned). But it would be even better if I could take a folder "Newsletter" from account A and B and make it show up under Unified Account as "Newsletter". Essentially your screenshot with an option to add more folders of users choosing to the top level under UA.

The use case for this is not having to go into each account to check additional folders when people use server side rules to keep inbox clean and less urgent emails are categorized by folder.
