6.400

Problem you are trying to solve

Hi.

First and foremost: I have been using K-9 Mail for many years now. And I want to thank all of you for your work. It is a great software!

Second: Until version 5.600 (before the great redesign) there was a folder next to unified inbox called "all messages" which showed exactly the stated. I was and am using it most of the time. And I have been missing it ever since… So please consider to bring this feature back...!

Thanx. Son-iX.

Suggested solution

Add a folder next to unified inbox called "All messages" which shows exactly the stated.

Maybe also an option to turn it on/off within General settings > Display > Account list: "Show All messages folder ☑︎"

You maybe remember how it used to be:

What's your use case for this? if you're using it all the time, why not configure the Unified Inbox to behave the same way?

Your idea is good. I could configure unified inbox that way. But in fact I like use it unified inbox for only reading all incoming mails from my mail accounts in one folder. This is very handy to double check if there is some important or unanswered mail in one of the inboxes, which are very often no more marked as unread as you might have had a glance already.

Use case for all messages: I use this intelligent folder for scrolling and searching through all messages from my mail accounts as this folder includes inboxes and also sent, drafts and other subfolders. To be honest I only navigate directly into the accounts folders for specific things, but all messages is the most used folder in my K-9 as it works for me like a perfect overview - scrollable or searchable… like a charm.

It was the single best feature of K9, particularly for those admins amongst us who have a plethora of mail accounts to check every day, but the developer has consistently refused to accept that he got the design wrong.

I never used the Unified Inbox - a complete and utter waste of time. The overview screen was SO much faster and more effective. The Unified inbox is a huge amount of hassle, especially if you have a dozen or more accounts, and still never really does what you want.

The dev wanted a gmail clone, and that is what he built as he liked that style and it suited him. He effectively said as much on the forums. Probably fine if you have one or two accounts. But a multi click mess if you have a lot.

This 'enhancement' has been removed from the 6.4 milestone so don't expect to see it happen, ever. There will always be 'something else' because they don't want to fix it as that would mean they had caved in to user pressure and a resulting loss of face.
