Request: Printing e-mails via Android 4.4 new printing services

Open greyspammer opened this issue 9 years ago • 9 comments

Since Android 4.4, there's a printing service integrated in the system. It is used by many other apps, such as the CM default mail client, Firefox, Chrome, Acrobat Reader, etc. http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html#44-printing

In conjunction with a service plugin from your printer manufacturer, it allows you to print documents and mails locally - without using any cloud services. Cloud printing is sometimes not an option due to the sensitivity of the contents. Or the lack of an internet connection.

It seems as if K-9 does not support this. At least I could not find any print button in my version 5.007 on CM 12.1 using IMAP.

I believe K-9 should also have the option to print e-mails this way. It makes no sense to have a good encryption interface to protect the information, only to be forced to reveal it to a third party anyway once you want to have it on paper.

I can't find any option to Print/Share anywhere on K-9 mail. As a result I need to use another email client to print my emails. Please add option to Print/Share emails!

So is this enhancement wish open forever? I was referred to this issue because of the header missing problem.

would be nice if that feature like in 1423 would be implemented, e.g. for sharing with printer, pdf creation etc.

I believe it would be a bad move to put the Thunderbird name on K-9 before this feature is implemented. Thunderbird is known to be feature-rich, and meanwhile, most of the apps it'll be competing against (Outlook, Gmail, Spark Mail, etc.) do have the feature.

I wanted to print several emails from your application.

And I just discovered that I couldn't and I find it really regrettable.

I tried with the Share menu, but I get the message in HTML programming code in the print preview.

I am using Android 10. And with version 6.901 of K9 Mail.

I use Google pixel 7. No additional App installed for printer. I need to print out order reply messages. Please add print option ASAP.
