Recipient address suggestions / collect addresses
Hi! First of all thanks for an opensource email client for Android, I use it since my first Android phone. But I want to report an inconvenience: k9 is not suggesting recipient addresses from previous emails, only from the smartphone addressbook. I use IMAP accounts. Is it possible to implement some kind of suggestions? At least from the headers of previously seen emails...
We should probably limit the suggestions to addresses you have previously sent a message to. Otherwise users that subscribe to mailing lists will be flooded with (useless) suggestions.
Thank you! This is not yet implemented right? I'd like to be beta-tester for it!
Every time this is mentioned, maintainers either close the ticket, mark it off-topic, or call it a duplicate. Please, someone, somewhere, implement this very simple request - and no, it has not been implement yet, not in any alpha, nor beta! :-)
Agree :P I think the -dev's don't like the auto-complete! but it's probably the most used feature when sending emails, believe us.
This is not a discussion forum. You're not adding any relevant information to this issue. Please use the mailing list if you feel the need to reiterate your need for this feature.
I would find a feature like this very useful too.
Is this feature on a roadmap?
Hello,
Do we know if anyone is working on this feature?
All the best
I cannot believe nobody has worked on this yet. This is literally the only mail client I've ever used where this feature isn't available. Is this project now dead/dormant?
@bokkiedog sorry, I understand your frustration. I use K9 myself as a daily driver and I miss this feature too. But this is open source. Nobody is working full-time on this, people are trying to do this for free in the spare time they have. It is not fair to accuse them that they have not had a chance to work on this yet. If you can contribute and help to add the feature - I am sure that maintainers will be happy to review your code and give reasonable comments. If you can support the project with money and sponsor the feature - that might work too (not sure if there is an established donation option, but if there is - I would pay a bit to get this)
I know how Free Software works. I put my money where my mouth is: my company is the founder Gold Sponsor of Debian LTS, for example! But that developers have ignored a highly-demanded and very simple to implement feature request implies this project is indeed dead. Your response confirms that further.
If I can find another Android mail client that properly handles shared IMAP folders, I'd be grateful for the advice.
I have not found anything open source that comes close to K9. There is plenty of proprietary stuff, but I am not the best person to advice on that.
After years of waiting I got fed up as well. Other open source options i am currently testing are: FairEmail, InboxPager and p≡p.
hey, please take action on this issue! I consider it to be a rather basic functionality for an e-mail client.
+1
They are much more interested to make footling changes to the user interface than to add this fundamental, basic user requirement that every single other mail client I have ever used supports out of the box.
I have tried FairEmail and never looked back. :-)
is there any progress on this? I would rate this as very convenient
+1, its the only missing feature in K9, which is the most used.

Would K9 only parse through the (possibly limited) e-mail history stored on the phone or actually check the server (which I would prefer)?
-
The history check shouldn't be limited to just the folder "send" but to emails that have actually been send independent on location, possibly to avoid folders on server not matching what's set up on the phone (personally have that fixed now but didnt before) or maybe recent folder changes/newly installed K9 though having a longer history on server already...
Hi There,
No pressure, but any news about this? Thanks in advanced,
How feasible is this? We should do it as it's something I've heard a bit since K-9 joined Thunderbird.
Hi,
+1, its the only missing feature in K9 ❤️
