Do I need this?
On Mac I use local folders and have a lot of nested folders.
Does anyone know if I can just install Thunderbird and it will import all my Mac Mail itself, or do I need something like this? Hoping not the latter as not sure how to use 'this' anyway but will have to learn if it's needed! Thanks
@johnstonesnow The short answer is yes. Thunderbird itself will not import Apple mail. The problem is that while IETNG can import mbox files that Apple also uses, it stores them in a convoluted directory structure that IETNG does not support. A user is trying to do the same and another user made a Python script to convert the apple structure to the Thunderbird structure, but it breaks now.
I flagged @Cubytus https://github.com/thunderbird/import-export-tools-ng/issues/521 To see if he wants to look at debugging this, otherwise it will be a manual effort. @cleidigh
Thanks for the reply. I am struggling to understand your message (my failing not yours!) I think what you're saying is I am basically screwed! Is that right? Sounds like you're saying that TB and MacMail both use MBOX files, the folder structure of exports from Mac Mail are not compatible with Thunderbird, if so I see what you mean, that's a big problem as I have many nested local folders in Mac Mail. Sorry state of affairs, but I refuse to stay on Apple so hopefully will find a solution :(
thanks again
@johnstonesnow No you are not screwed. I have to bite the bullet and work with you and @Cubytus in
- #521 To fix the user script https://github.com/thunderbird/import-export-tools-ng/wiki Do you have script experience or shall we get you the end results? Either way join in
- #521 I am going to close this. @cleidigh
