Communities are strangely sorted in search with Hot/Active sorts

Open Supreeeme opened this issue 3 months ago • 1 comments

Bug Description

When searching for a community and using the Hot or Active sorts (they actually seem to give the same results?) the communities seem to be sorted in a strange order that doesn't reflect "Hot" or "Active".

For example, here are the results from me searching for "music" from a lemmy.world anonymous account:

Only the first commnnity here actually has some semblance of activity. The rest of them either don't load or haven't had any activity in months.

Expected Behaviour

I'd expect these sorts to act similarly to, if not the same as, the "Most Comments" sort, or one of the "Top" sorts. Honestly it's not clear to me what the difference would even be.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Search for a community
  2. Observe strange sorting

Additional Context

I realize that you can switch the sorting method and it seems like it'll stick, but these as the default sorts seems like a bad experience.

App Version

0.7.3

Device

motorola razr plus 2024

OS

Android 15

Thanks for the report! I just double checked and it seems like those sort options are not actually valid sort options for communities (see image below).

The best thing to do here would be to remove those options from the menu as they're not officially supported.
